Mobi

Mobi, a baby toy and game company, set out to create a new sensory toy inspired by the founder’s infant daughter, who loved pulling on shoelaces and exploring their texture and tension. Their first handmade prototype was a mason jar with hand-poked holes and threaded shoelaces. Working closely with Mobi’s founders, as well as doctors and therapists, the Klugonyx design team explored countless concepts and sketches to ensure the toy would engage multiple senses, stand out visually, and most importantly be safe for babies to interact with. The result was Zippee, a colorful, food-grade silicone toy made of textured grip strings, which launched in 2020 and went on to win the ABC Kids Expo Best New Product Award that same year.

Project Summary

Project Challenge:

Designing a multifunctional sensory toy from a single primary material may sound simple, but in practice it quickly becomes complex. The process can involve multiple iterations, prototypes, and samples to refine if a strong foundational design framework is not established early on. Fortunately, this is where the Klugonyx design and engineering teams excel. While Mobi’s team provided excellent direction, the real challenge was to create a toy that not only met strict safety standards but was also unique and highly engaging for babies.

Solution:

Drawing on Klugonyx’s extensive experience in designing, developing, and manufacturing baby products for hundreds of clients, we streamlined the Zippee’s design process. This allowed us to avoid countlessdead-end iterations that often add months to development. At the same time, our manufacturing team ensured pricing stayed within the desired targets.

The result was the award-winning Zippee sensory toy.Throughout our partnership with Mobi, we supported the design, engineering, and manufacturing of 10 additional sensory products, helping them grow and establish themselves as a successful baby brand.
