Project: Multi-pocketed bag
Client: Blueprints Project
Capabilities: research // design // PROTOTYPE // manufacturing
CLIENT REQUEST: Blueprints Project founders Jill and Wendy came to us with a vision of organization on the go for their sets of 4 and 5 kids. They wanted a ‘modern Mary Poppins bag’ with the precision of an architect’s blueprints. They wanted a way for parents to feel always prepared and never overwhelmed. They also wanted to teach their kids the value of being prepared and organized with their own miniature bags.
THE CHALLENGE: We started this project with a lot of questions: How should the bag be organized? What is the easiest way to access one thing quickly? If mom packs the bag how will the kids or a teacher know where to find something? What if there is money, ID’s or other items that need to be stored but need protection? How can we make sure everything in the bag is protected?
THE APPROACH: We did a broad exploration and narrowed our designs with Jill and Wendy. We ended up with a roll-up bag that had an easy carry handle and a tightening strap. We included numbered pockets and special plastic welded zippers for waterproofing inside and outside. There is even a locked pocket for special items and detachable pouch for bare necessities.
THE RESULTS: The Blueprints full size original and smaller mini size have enough space for everything you could possibly need. The special blueprints card on the top can tell teachers or kids which pocket to find what in and other special information like allergies and medications. This bag can store snacks, first aid, toys, clothes, and anything under the sun.
